Jaishree

Jaishree has been drawing since childhood in India, filling pages with the eyes, eyebrows, and paisleys of traditional Indian art long before she picked up a paintbrush. She studied art formally, worked in textile design, and eventually opened her own studio, Silver Studios, in New Delhi, drawn most of all to flowers, a pull strong enough that she once considered training as a botanist.

She moved to the United States in the mid-1990s, working in swimwear and graphic design in California. At the turn of the century she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and stepped back from art professionally, though she never stopped painting.

As MS gradually loosened the tight, precise control her early work was built on, her painting shifted toward looser, more suggestive florals and abstracts built from color and gesture, and this collection gathers work from that later era.
